celebrating 10 years Of IMPact

Immerse Arkansas is working to build an expansive pathway to healing available to every youth from crisis in Arkansas. As we begin 2022, we’re reflecting on accomplishments that were made possible by the generosity of supporters like you:

  • We’re celebrating our 10th anniversary of responding to the needs and obstacles of youth from crisis.

  • Our newly renovated youth center reopened to serve even more youth in need.

  • We expanded supports for youth, including increased life skills classes and mentorship opportunities, increased recreational activities, a larger staff team to better meet youth needs, specialized support for teens and their foster and adoptive families through LifeBASE Teen, and more!

See the difference you make.

2021 Top Moments at Immerse

Top Moment #1: Dreaming of a Shelter

We began raising funds for Central Arkansas’s first shelter for young adults, ages 18-24, this year. Over the past 10 years of caring for youth from crisis, we have heard a resounding request for safe, immediate housing. Our dream is to offer a welcoming, youth-friendly space where youth who have experienced trauma can find shelter from sleeping on the streets or in other unsafe conditions and can get connected to our continuum of programs designed just for young adults.

We purchased property for this shelter less than a quarter mile from The OC last year, and this year we have already raised over half the funds necessary to build the shelter space. Our goal is to raise the remaining funds needed in the coming year, and begin construction on the shelter by 2023.

Top Moment #2: Youth Worked Hard

Each year, we celebrate our Overcomers’ hard work and perseverance by taking all youth who work a set number of hours during the summer months on a retreat. This year, 4 youth worked a combined over 1,000 hours during the summer months and celebrated with a trip to Branson! We are so proud of our Overcomers and all the ways they have pressed toward their goals this year.

Top Moment #3: Bonding With Mentors

We know trauma formed in relationships must be healed in relationships, and that the presence of a supportive, caring adult in the life of a young person can make an incredible impact on their future. That’s why we expanded our mentor supports for youth this year by offering over 50 opportunities for youth and mentors to connect, mentors to get training and connect with fellow mentors, and more. We also hired Akissi Brooks, who has extensive experience in providing and shaping mentorship relationships for young people, as our new Mentor Coordinator to continue improving on our mentorship supports in the coming year.

This year’s Top Moment #4: Horseback Riding, Canoeing, and More

We love to try new things with our youth, and we know that new experiences can often birth growth, confidence, and deeper relationships for our Overcomers. That’s why, through supporters like you, we partnered with local businesses and organizations this year to offer fun, new experiences for our youth. We did everything from riding and caring for horses, to canoeing, hiking, and more. Each of these activities were not only loads of fun, but allowed youth to practice new skills and build deeper relationships with their coaches and peers!

Top Moment #5: Growth & Graduations

We’re highlighting all the small, daily ways our youth have grown this year, as well as celebrating those youth who have made big steps into adulthood by graduating from our programs. Check out this video to get a peek into a “Day in the Life” of our Immerse Overcomers as they learn, grow, and work hard to achieve their goals.

Top Moment #6: OC Ribbon Cutting

This summer, we celebrated the reopening of our newly renovated youth center, The OC, with a Ribbon Cutting. Our new OC space offers expanded supports for youth from crisis: including onsite showers, an expanded laundry space, a fully-equipped commercial teaching kitchen, a life skills classroom and art space, quiet rooms for counseling and relaxation, and more! Since reopening The OC, we have impacted over 230 youth from crisis through supports offered through this space, and we are looking forward to impacting even more youth in 2022.

Top Moment #7: Launch of LifeBASE Teen

Our newest track of LifeBASE, LifeBASE Teen, was in full swing this year, impacting 14 teens and their foster or adoptive families. LifeBASE Teen offers these youth and families coaching, training, and fun, community-building activities to equip both teens and their families with the tools they need for healing and preparing the teen for adulthood!

Top Moment #8: Little Overcomers

We welcomed 5 new babies into our LifeBASE Care and OC programs this year, and we’ve been able to provide everything from baby items to increased in-home support to make sure each of these babies and their families have what they need to grow and overcome!

Top Moment #9: Equipped Youth with Life Skills

This year, we've provided over 250 life skills classes for our youth. From cooking classes to yoga, we've worked to equip our youth with a variety of skills to help them prepare for all aspects of adulthood. Whether we are learning to care for our bodies through nutrition, or learning to calm our emotions through mindfulness, we have loved sharing (and even learning!) new skills alongside our youth this year. Volunteers and community partners have led a large portion of these life skills, teaching youth to do their taxes and manage finances, build a resume or prepare for an interview, or even stretch out stress through yoga!

Top Moment #10: Youth Serving Youth

This year, we began employing youth at The OC through our partnership with the Arkansas Workforce, as well as through our own expanded programming. Some youth staff are Immerse alumni, and others are interested in gaining work experience or helping support other youth in need. There are few things more powerful than youth caring for other youth who are coming behind them, leading the way and showing what’s possible. “If I could share anything with other youth, I would share about how successful I was at Immerse and how they helped me accomplish my goals,” Regina (pictured) shares.
