A New Thing: The OC Buildout Begins
This Friday, a new thing is happening here at Immerse! We will be breaking ground on our youth drop-in center, Overcomer Central (The OC), turning the currently unfinished warehouse space into a place of belonging for youth from crisis, where they can access practical and relational supports.
We invite you to join us Live on Facebook, this Friday, October 16th, at 11am, to watch the ground breaking ceremony and celebrate this “new thing” with us!
The Journey of The OC
In 2017, Immerse Arkansas purchased a 7,200 square foot unfinished warehouse, located along Asher Avenue here in Little Rock. This space became The OC, serving as Immerse’s base of operations. Here, youth from crisis can access practical and relational supports, from a hot meal to one-on-one coaching, as they move toward healing and a healthy adulthood.
While we love our space, it does not communicate the value we place on the life of each individual who walks through the doors. It has been our dream to buildout the current OC space, and create a place of belonging, where youth can walk in and feel wanted, expected, and intentionally cared for. We want youth to see that we thought about them before they arrived, and we are prepared to help them from the moment they enter our building.
This year, through the generosity of our donors and the support of our community, this dream is becoming a reality.
This month, the OC will begin being transformed, built up, and built out. Teams from SCM Architects and Flynco will create spaces designed to better meet the needs of youth, including an expanded laundry space, individual rooms for counseling, a life skills classroom, a teaching kitchen, recreation areas, and more. Check out a few of the initial renderings of these new spaces below.
We know this project would not be possible without the generosity and support of the Immerse community. Thank you. It's such an encouragement to partner together, and we look forward to providing a place of belonging to young people, where their basic needs can be met, and the message that they are seen and intentionally cared for by not only Immerse, but the community as a whole, is heard loud and clear.
